Letter: Residents can’t afford burgeoning taxes

To the editor,

We, the citizens of Naugatuck, are seeking a second referendum as we can’t afford the burgeoning taxes. Board of Finance Chairwoman Diane Scinto asks us if we want the library, the parks, the Hop Brook Golf Course closed and the senior center cut. My question to her is where did you get the money to give out recent employee raises? What audacity.

I think she should go to Shelton and talk to Mayor Mark Lauretti, who has kept the taxes flat for three years at 22.31 whereas Naugatuck wants a mill rate of 45.57. Ridiculous.

Are you proud of such high taxes? When will it stop? We need to show that our votes mean something.
