PROSPECT — The Community School Purchase Committee is seeking suggestions from the public on potential uses for the school.

The school, which is located at 12 Center St., will not be used as a school this fall as students will attend the newly constructed Prospect Elementary School. Region 16, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, is looking to sell the Community School property, and the town of Prospect has shown interest in buying it.

The town formed the Community School Purchase Committee this year to review buying the school and potential uses for the building. The town has several municipal uses in mind, and the committee is also accepting ideas for using the school. Committee member John Altson said each proposal for use of the space will need to consider several factors, including startup and operational costs, impact on the whole facility and the extent of the potential usage within the town.

All of the usage ideas will be discussed by the committee, prioritized and then voted on, Alston said. If the town decides to move forward with buying the school, the purchase would have to be approved by voters at a referendum.

Anyone with usage ideas for the school can contact Altson at jaaltson@gmail.com or (203) 527-6839. Written suggestions can be dropped off at Prospect Town Hall earmarked for the Community School Purchase Committee.
