NAUGATUCK — Mr. Rui Jorge Bastos Costa, 57, of Naugatuck, passed away Friday morning June 12, 2015 with his family by his side. He was the husband of Laurinda Resonde (de Costa) Costa.

Rui was born in Oliveira de Azemeis, Portugal, Oct. 14, 1957, a son of the late Abilio Pereira Costa and Maria Adelaide Sousa (Bastos) Costa and had been a Naugatuck resident for 43 years, coming here with his family at the age of 14 from Portugal. He was a construction laborer, working in environmental remediation with Earth Technologies for over 14 years and recently with Red Technologies of Bloomfield.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church of Waterbury and presently active member of Clube Uniao Portuguesa of Naugatuck had served four terms as president. He enjoyed working around the yard of his home, planting flowers and being with his family. He enjoyed spending time with all his friends, at the club and in the Portuguese community here in Naugatuck.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital and the nurses and staff of Vitas Hospice for the special care that was provided to Rui and his family during his illness.

Besides his wife of 38 ½ years, he leaves one son, Rui Costa of Naugatuck; one daughter, Sonia Tetik and her husband, Oktay, of Meriden; two brothers Adelino Costa of Naugatuck and Augusto Costa of Portugal; one sister, Maria Madalena Costa of Portugal and three grandchildren, Aysegul, Julianna, and Vanesa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday morning June 14, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Friends are asked to meet directly at church prior to Mass. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Cemitrio De Oliveira Cemetery, Oliveira de Azemeis, Portugal. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St., is assisting the family with all arrangements.
