NAUGATUCK — Bears were spotted in Beacon Falls and Naugatuck on Wednesday morning.

Naugatuck police said a bear was sighted in the area of Birch Lane at about 9:20 a.m. Officers responded to the area and saw the bear enter a wooded area near Deepwood Road, police said.

Naugatuck police issued a CT Alert message to residents in the area asking residents to take precautions, including making sure their pets are indoors and that their doors are closed.

Naugatuck police warned residents not to approach the bear, if they see it. Anyone who spots the bear in Naugatuck is asked to contact police at (203) 729-5222 so updates on its location can be issued.

A bear was spotted in Beacon Falls, as well, in the area of Woodland Regional High School and Rimmon Hill Road around 7:45 a.m.

Beacon Falls Resident State Trooper Humberto Henriques said police checked the area and contacted  security officers at the school after the reports came in. The school day was not interrupted.

Henriques said police believe the bear went back into its habitat. He said if residents see a bear they should not feed it and keep a safe distance.
