HARTFORD — The legislature’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee passed a bill last week to authorize state grant commitments for school building projects.

HB 7022, An Act Concerning Authorization of State Grant Commitments for School Building Projects and Changes to the Statutes Concerning School Building Projects, also requires the Department of Administrative Services to develop a standard checklist for construction projects of school buildings and establish a school building project clearinghouse.

If the bill becomes law, Naugatuck will receive $849,375 in grant funds for the ongoing $81 million Naugatuck High School renovation project, a press release stated. Naugatuck receives 75 percent state reimbursement on eligible costs.

“This legislation will benefit Naugatuck and many other school districts that are renovating or building new school facilities,” said state Rep. Rosa Rebimbas (R-70), a member of the committee, in a press release.

State Rep. David Labriola (R-131) added in the release, “This funding will enable Naugatuck High School to make vital improvements to its infrastructure and provide an excellent learning atmosphere for its students.”

The bill passed committee with a unanimous vote and was placed on the House calendar where it awaits action before the full General Assembly.
