Police charge Waterbury man with sexual assault

NAUGATUCK — A 77-year-old Waterbury man was arrested Monday after police say he inappropriately touched a Naugatuck woman last summer.

Police reported Richard Wood, of 62 Avalon Circle, Waterbury, was working as a volunteer with the Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging when he was in the victim’s home last summer. The victim, a 58-year-old woman, told police Wood told her he was at her home to discuss medical transportation, police said. While at the home, police reported, Wood inappropriately touched the woman against her will. The victim reported the incident to police on Aug. 1, 2014.

Wood was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on May 27 and released on a court-set $50,000 surety bond.
