SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Ann Marie Rathburn Spadola, 81, passed away peacefully in Scottsdale on April 3, 2015, ending a truly memorable and rewarding life of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

Born July 3, 1933 in Waterbury, Conn. Ann graduated from Naugatuck High School and LaSalle Junior College in Massachusetts. She married Donald Spadola of Naugatuck on Sept. 5, 1955, following the great Naugatuck Flood of 1955. Ann moved with Donald to Pennsylvania where they lived and began their family. They returned to Connecticut and resided in Norwalk from 1965 to 1993. Upon retirement they moved to Chandler, Ariz., to be near their children and grandchildren. Ann chaired many fundraisers and social events in each community she lived in. She loved to travel, cook, have parties, and be generous to her family and friends.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna Rathburn, Donald Spadola, her husband of 40 years; her in-laws, Joseph and Loretta Spadola, and her sister-in-law, Diane Spadola Morello. Ann is survived by three children and six grandchildren, Donald J. Spadola (Donna, Joseph, LeighAnn) of Las Vegas, Nev., Thomas J. Spadola (Rebecca, Edmund, and Evan) of Tampa, Fla., Beth Hammon (Tod, Bennett, Grayson) of Phoenix, Ariz.; and one sister, Sister Eleanor Rathburn of the Sisters of Mercy, along with three nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be Friday, April 10, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. There will be a reception immediately following the cemetery service at Jesse Camille’s Restaurant, 615 North Church St., Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Ann’s memory can be made to the Sisters of Mercy Retirement Fund, 55 E. Cedar St., Newington, CT 06111.
