NAUGATUCK — A cashier thwarted a Waterbury’s man attempt to steal from the Mobile gas station on South Main Street, police said.

Police said Joshua Parent, 29, of 84 Gilman St., Waterbury, attempted to steal several items from the gas station at 282 South Main St. on March 3. The cashier restrained and fought with Parent as officers responded to the scene, police said. When officers arrived, police said, they tried to arrest Parent, but he resisted. An officer then tased Parent, police said, and he was taken into custody.

Parent was found with several items from the store on him, police said. Officers also found that Parent was illegally in possession of several “Suboxone strips,” an opiate narcotic used to treat addiction.

Parent was charged with breach of peace, interfering with an officer, six-degree larceny, third-degree assault and possession of controlled substance. He was held on bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court March 3.
