NAUGATUCK — Lucille (Karbowicz) Russell, 88, of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Nikodem and Marianna (Bochinski) Karbowicz.

She was predeceased by her sons, Andrew Christen and Robin; also her sister, Helen Gordon, and her brothers, Edmund, Matthew, Chester and Henry Karbowicz.

Lucille is survived by two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Carolyn, of Lenoir, N.C., and Frederick of Naugatuck with whom she made her home. She is also survived by her two daughters, Nancy and her husband, Kenneth Dupont, of Naugatuck and Janice Russell, also of Naugatuck, as well as her daughter-in-law, Marian Russell Carroll of Waterbury.

She leaves her grandchildren, Amy Tarr, Kenneth Russell, Nicholas Russell, Jonathan Russell, Scott Russell, Mary Russell, Christopher Dupont, Sydney Dupont and Ethan Russell. In addition she had 14 great-grandchildren.

Lucille was very active in the Naugatuck community. She was a past president of the Naugatuck Women’s Club, a member of the Naugatuck Historical Society, Naugatuck Garden Club, St. Francis Catholic Council, and the Borough of Naugatuck Pension Board.

Lucille was a proud member of the workforce during World War II as a fuel cell inspector. She brought her poise and dignity to a number of jobs as she raised her family. She ended her working career in the mayor’s office of Naugatuck, managing the workers compensation program. Of all her accomplishments Lucille’s greatest joy was her family. She will be greatly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Friday, March 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Naugatuck Historical Society, 195 Water St., Naugatuck, CT.
