NAUGATUCK — Joan M. (Gumpper) Shukaitis, 82, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by her family. She was widow of Napolean Benaitis, Sr., and Edmund Shukaitis.

Joan was born in Honesdale, Pa. on April 14, 1932, daughter of the late Frank and Effie (Rice) Gumpper. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident and was a member of the VFW and Lithuanian Club Post 7790 in Waterbury. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Shukaitis is survived by her seven sons, Napoleon Jr. of Windsor Locks, Timothy of Waterbury, Dennis, Richard, John and Donald, all of Naugatuck, and Jeremy of Fort Myers, Fla.; three daughters, Judy Keating of Paso Robles, Calif., Nancy Redente of Morris, and Evelyn DiBiase of Naugatuck; her brother, Frank Gumpper of Waterbury; her sister, Arlene Supranavicius of Wolcott; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son David Benaitis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck. Those attending are asked to please meet at 9:45 a.m. at the church. Calling hours will be held on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
