NAUGATUCK — Old Waterbury Road has reopened in both directions after a tractor-trailer overturned near the Naugatuck-Waterbury town line Monday morning.

Drivers traveling south on the road, from Waterbury into Naugatuck, should still expect slight delays as the cleanup continues, police said.

According to police, the truck overturned Monday morning after the driver tried to turn out of a parking lot and drive over what looked like a snow bank. However, the snow was covering a concrete Jersey barrier. The flatbed trailer turned on its side and spilled potting soil, which it was carrying, on the road, police said.

The southbound portion of the road, which is also known as South Main Street in Waterbury, was closed and a detour was set up. Police announced shortly after 11 a.m. the road is open to travel in both directions. However, police said, the southbound lane is still partially closed while crews continue to clean the road. The cleanup is expected to take a few hours.
