NAUGATUCK — Intermediate and middle school students will see a slight shift to their schedule next year.

Starting in the 2015-16 school year, City Hill Middle School will start five minutes earlier at 7:55 a.m. and the two intermediate schools will start five minutes later at 8:25 a.m., Assistant Superintendent of Schools Christopher Montini explained at the Feb. 19 Board of Education meeting.

The end of the school day will be adjusted accordingly for each school.

The start and dismissal times for the elementary schools and Naugatuck High School will remain the same, though the high school will dismiss five minutes earlier during a day with an early dismissal.

Montini said the change was made to ensure students arrive at school and home on time. He said when the school system was reconfigured many years ago it presented a busing problem and often buses do not make it to intermediate schools on time. This caused a ripple effect and the buses for elementary schools would be late.

The new schedule allows 25 minutes for bus runs between the high school and middle school and 30 minutes between other schools. Montini said the bus company feels that will be enough time to ensure students arrive where they are supposed to on time.
