PROSPECT — Mrs. Margaret (Watkins) Varhol, 52, of Prospect passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2015 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife, best friend and love of his life to husband Paul.

Margaret was born in Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 3, 1962, daughter of Carol Mahlerwein and John Williams Watkins of Columbus, Ohio. She worked at Pepperidge Farms as a senior project manager, was a member of the Milford Jaycees where she and Paul first met, and served as a Jaycee state officer, as a Girl Scout leader, and on the Prospect Pop Warner Football/Cheer and the Woodland Football Booster Club for many years.

Margaret loved camping, snow skiing and swimming with family and friends. However, her greatest joys came from ringing the cowbell at Alex’s football games, primping and prepping with Amanda for her musical and dance performances, and watching Paul rock out with his band. Margaret always asked questions and was the peacemaker when it came to resolving differences and offering intelligent suggestions. This was Margaret’s special gift that family and friends will all miss.

In addition to her husband and mother, Margaret is survived by son, Alex Michael Varhol and daughter, Amanda Marie Varhol of Prospect; sister, Larae Anne Watkins and her husband, Kevin J. Bacon, of Macomb, Ill., and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 1555 Hamilton Ave., Waterbury. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be held at the Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect on Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alex and Amanda Varhol College Fund c/o ION Bank, 24 Waterbury Road, Prospect, CT 06712.
