NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Loretta Terese “Rita” Kelly, 88, of Naugatuck, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015 at VITAS, at Glendale Health Care Center. She was the widow of Edward W. Kelly.

Mrs. Kelly was born in Waterbury on July 25, 1926 a daughter of the late Dennis and Nora (McKenna) Griffin. She was retired from St. Mary’s Hospital where she had worked for many years as a unit clerk. She enjoyed going out with her friends, playing bingo, going to the movies and to the casino and most of all, spending time with her family, especially the times that they spent together at the beach. She was a truly loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great -grandmother and friend who opened her home to everyone. Often inviting them to join her for a cup of tea and was extremely proud of her Irish heritage.

Mrs. Kelly is survived her family who she truly adored, her daughter, Kathleen Kelly-O’Donnell and her husband,Robert, of Prospect; three grandchildren, Richard O’Donnell and his wife, Tracy, Tricia Del Buono and her husband, Simone, Robert D. O’Donnell and his companion, Jenny Wernery; four great-grandchildren, Sydney O’Donnell, Kylie O’ Donnell, Aiden DelBuono, and Ava DelBuono; two sisters, Sister Mary Dennis Griffin of West Hartford and Agnes Caffrey of Waterbury, several nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mrs Kelly was predeceased by sisters, Mary McLean, Helen Rossi and Katherine Philibert; brothers, Dennis Griffin, John Griffin and Francis Griffin, and her special nephew, Bill Griffin, who was like a son to her.

Mrs. Kelly’s family would like to thank the staff at Glendale for their care and compassion shown to her and her family during her illness.

The funeral will be held on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 at 10 a.m. from Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect to St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in Waterbury at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015 8:30 to 10 a.m.
