PROSPECT — The Prospect Library has a new boiler and is open for business.

The library closed Monday in order to replace the boiler, which broke last week. The work was expected to take a week or so. However, the work was completed in three days and the library reopened on Thursday.

“Come on down. We’re here and available as usual. Come get your books, DVDs, audiobooks and magazines,” Library Director John Wiehn said.

Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield said the town is working with its insurance carrier and the cost of the work wasn’t known as of this post. It was unclear whether the replacement will be covered by the insurance, he said. He said the town had to pay a down payment of $8,400 to get the sections for the new boiler.

“The good thing was the library, for the first time, put a $5,000 line item for ongoing capital item in its budget. You can guess where that went to,” Chatfield said.

Chatfield said the new boiler runs more efficiently than the previous one and will save the town money in heating costs. The new boiler is expected to last as long as the previous one, which was installed when the library first opened in 1990, he added.
