BEACON FALLS — David Andrew Shay, 51, of Beacon Falls, died peacefully in his sleep at Griffin Hospital, Derby on January 25, 2015.

Dave was born in Summit, N.J., and grew up in Darien. He graduated from The Marvelwood School in Kent before attending college at The University of Hartford. An accident on a ski slope left him a paraplegic at 17, but he never let that stop him. He was a career IT professional specializing in programming. His 25-year career included positions at Met-Life and Sikorski Aircraft.

A fun loving, generous and gregarious friend and family member; he was an avid fan of the UConn Huskies womens basketball team. He loved gardening and lived independently in a home that he designed. He had a passion for green energy and recently installed solar panels on his home.

Dave is survived by his brother, Robert Shay of Chicago, Ill., two sisters, Cindy (Shay) Molgano and her husband, Frank of Burlington, and Pam (Shay) Clark and her husband, Matthew of Baltimore, Md.; as well as 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Allan and Marjorie (Eckhart) Shay.

A Memorial Service in celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Feb. 28, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Beacon Falls Congregational Church, 69 Wolfe Ave., Beacon Falls. The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia is in care of arrangements.
