HARTFORD — State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus (R-89) has been selected to serve as the leading House Republican lawmaker on the legislature’s Public Safety and Security Committee.

Zupkus will also serve on the legislature’s committees on general law and human services. Her new committee responsibilities begin at the start of the next legislative session on Jan. 7.

“Lezlye will make an excellent addition to these committees, and I know she will serve the House Republican caucus with distinction,” said state Rep. Themis Klarides, incoming House Republican Leader, in a press release. “We all depend on our ranking members to be our biggest advocates, our watchdogs, when it comes to shaping important legislation.”

In her new role as the committee’s ranking member, Zupkus will serve as the go-to lawmaker for House Republicans during the early to mid-session committee work that shapes legislation considered by the General Assembly’s full membership.

“I’m honored to receive this job from representative Klarides and her leadership team, and I look forward to tackling issues that come before this panel as well as those related to my other committee assignments,” said Zupkus in the press release. “I can’t wait to get to work.”
