NAUGATUCK — Irene Maria Lopes, 89, of Naugatuck, the widow of Manuel Goncalves Lopes, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 at Waterbury Hospital.

Mrs. Lopes was born March 5, 1925 in Santa Maria, Obidos, Portugal, a daughter of the late Francisco Pedro and Maria Anacleta. Mrs. Lopes was a former employee of the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc. and for seven years she owned and operated the Lopes Bakery on Baldwin Street in Waterbury with her family. Mrs. Lopes was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Mrs. Lopes is survived by her son, Antonio P. Lopes and his wife, Ana J. Lopes, of Naugatuck; three grandchildren, Pedro Lopes, Miguel Lopes and his wife, Diane, Joao Lopes and his wife, Elizabete; one great-granddaughter, Natalia Lopes; nephew, Eduardo Dos Santos and wife, Aucindia, and daughters Manuela Nunes and husband, Jose, Ana Felipe and husband, Armando. Mrs. Lopes was predeceased by her brother, Francisco Pedro.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Burial will be in Cemiterio dos Arcos in Obidos, Portugal. Calling hours are Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave.
