Obituary: Dorothy (Johnson) Nelson

NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Dorothy (Johnson) Nelson, 97, passed away Wednesday, July 30 at the Lutheran Home in Southbury. She was the widow of the late George Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson was born in Plymouth, the daughter to the late Arthur and Signe (Swan) Johnson. Before moving to Naugatuck Mrs. Nelson lived in Terryville and was a graduate of Terryville High School. She was also a graduate of Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and spent many years working at area hospitals as a private duty RN.

Mrs. Nelson was a Red Cross volunteer nurse for over 40 years doing medical histories with the Blood Mobile. She was a member of HHSN Alumni, a member of the Naugatuck Registered Nurses Club and the Glendale Community Club. She was a communicant of Salem Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by two sons, Charles Nelson of Akron, Ohio, and Thomas Nelson of Naugatuck, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband George and her parents she was also predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Her family would like to thank the staff and administration of The Lutheran Home in Southbury for their compassionate, caring and professional treatment of Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 14 Salem St., Naugatuck. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.
