Letter: Zupkus represents her constituency

To the editor,

This letter is in response to a recent mailing indicating that Lezlye Zupkus, republican candidate for the 89th House District, is insensitive to women’s issues. Lezlye’s record stands for nothing of the sort. She is a full-time working mother of two children. Lezlye understands the demands required of women who have careers, marriages and families because she is living that life herself. She truly represents her constituency.

Lezlye’s career includes many years spent working for Special Olympics where she worked closely with athletes and their families not only during competition but all year long. In addition, she was the director of development at St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation. During her tenure she was instrumental in raising funds for programs and services to benefit women and children, including the creation of the Women and Infant Center and Clinical Laboratory. Currently she works for Best Buddies International, a volunteer organization which provides opportunities for the physically and intellectually disabled.

It is simply incorrect to assert that a woman whose career has followed a path of service to others is insensitive to the issues facing women today.

On Nov. 4, I am voting for Lezlye Zupkus. If you live in the 89th, you should as well.
