To the editor,

Welcome to Prospect Youth Soccer for all of you who are new players, parents, coaches or volunteers, we’re glad to have you as part of PYS. As I write this article we’ve just gotten three Saturdays of rec games under our belts, but I’ve seen some pretty good kicks, goalie blocks, passing, shooting, fancy footwork and all around team work at Pent, Caplan, St. Mary’s and Hotchkiss fields. Way to go teams. Just to give you an idea about how large Prospect Youth Soccer has become, we have seven Dinomites teams, six U6 rec teams, ten U8 rec teams, eight U10 rec teams, three U10 travel teams, one U11 travel team, four U12 travel teams, one U13 travel team, two U14 travel teams and six Premier teams. That makes a total of 48 teams. And that takes a lot of team work and volunteers to manage. If you are interested in joining with us, please volunteer as a coach or assistant coach, or come attend a board meeting. We always welcome anyone who would like to make a contribution to making PYS a successful endeavor. We meet the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the firehouse.

We began the season with some hot weather and even though it’s cooled off, make sure to have your children bring plenty of water to drink while they are taking a rest in between playing times. As the weather cools, your child may want to add some layers under their uniform for on the field and some layers over their uniform for off the field. If you didn’t have an opportunity to purchase your warmer weather gear at the tent the opening week of practices, we have Under Armor, hats, sweatshirts, wind shirts, warm-up pants and more available on the online store on our website.

On Saturday, Sept. 20 PYS history was made. Congratulations to the U14 travel comp girls team, Prospect Pride, for winning the first ever CT Cup game for a PYS travel team. Here’s a shout out to their current coach, Dave Bell, and former coaches, Ryan Smith, Mike Sirowich, Anne Vescera, Jim Barbarito and Bill Kotsaftis, for their work with the girls to get them to this point. Tori, Aries, Amanda, Ajlina, Gabby, Rebekah, Morgan, Alanna, Gabby, Katie, Bridgette, Jillian, Michealla, Juliana, Mia, Nicole, Olivia, Julia, Sophia and XiuXiu — great job girls, you made us all proud. Who are we? Prospect.

In addition to offering players the opportunity to participate in recreational and travel teams, PYS is also pleased to continue offering players U11 and older an opportunity to compete at the premiere level with our girls premiere program (Dynamo) and our boys premiere program (Cobras). Both programs have proven to be very competitive in state-wide league play. For information or questions, please contact Joe Sousa at jfsousa@snet.net for girls/Dynamo (www.pscdynamo.com) and Jason Christopher (jmtracing@comcast.net) or Dan Barrows (Danielbarrowsacn@aim.com) for boys/Cobras.
