Markley qualifies for Citizens’ Election Program

HARTFORD — State Sen. Joseph Markley (R-16) has qualified for the Citizens’ Election Program for the 2014 general election.

The program is a voluntary program, which allows qualifying candidates for General Assembly and statewide offices to receive full public financing. To qualify for public campaign financing, candidates for state representative must raise $5,000 from at least 150 individuals residing in municipalities in their district. Participating candidates may only accept small dollar contributions from certain individuals — the maximum contribution is $100 — and no contributions from state contractors or PACs.

In most races, general election grant amounts are $27,850 for state representative candidates and $94,690 for state senate candidates, according to the State Elections Enforcement Commission, which oversees the program.

Markley is running for re-election in the 16th Senatorial District, which represents Prospect, Cheshire, Southington, Waterbury and Wolcott.

Firefighters, police endorse Crisco

HARTFORD — State Sen. Joe Crisco (d-17) received endorsements from the Connecticut State Police and the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut.

“When it comes to standing up for the men and women who provide for our public safety, we can never do enough,” Crisco said in a press release. “If I am re-elected, I will continue to work on matters of concern to both constituencies.”

Peter Carozza, Jr., president of the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut, said in a press release, “This endorsement comes because of Joe’s record of support for the Professional Fire Fighters Association of the State of Connecticut and Joe’s commitment to helping to insure the health and safety of our brothers and sisters throughout the state.”

President of the Connecticut State Police Union Andrew Matthews added in a press release, “Senator Crisco’s commitment to public safety and Trooper safety is truly appreciated by the entire membership.”

Crisco is running for re-election to the 17th Senatorial District which includes Woodbridge, Hamden, Bethany, Beacon Fallls, Naugatuck, Ansonia and Derby.

CBIA endorses Hartley for re-election

HARTFORD — The Connecticut Business & Industry Association has endorsed state Sen. Joan V. Hartley (D-15) for re-election.

CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with 10,000 member companies.
“Joan Hartley’s leadership skills and knowledge of the issues facing Connecticut will help her lead her colleagues in the legislature in advancing policies that are critical to improving the economy and creating more opportunities for everyone in the state,” said Joe Brennan, CBIA executive vice president, in a news release. “She is a great asset to the businesses and people of Connecticut.”

Hartley is seeking re-election in the 15th Senate District, which includes the towns of Naugatuck and Waterbury.

Sierra Club endorses Crisco

HARTFORD — State Sen. Joe Crisco (D-17) has been endorsed for re-election by the Sierra Club.

Political and Legislative Chair of the Sierra Club–Connecticut Chapter Martin Mador said in a news release, “Our decision to endorse Senator Crisco was due to his commitment to the environmental issues and his strong record of environmental support in the legislature.”

The club, an environmental group, has over 8,000 members in Connecticut.

“I am proud of my record as it pertains to the environment,” Crisco said in a news release. “In all of the policy we create in the legislature, we must constantly be mindful of how it impacts our natural resources.”

Crisco is seeking re-election in the 17th Senatorial District, which represents Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Derby, Hamden, Naugatuck and Woodbridge.
