NAUGATUCK — The Harvest Moon Festival is set to rise this weekend.
The festival, which is in its 31st year, is Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the Naugatuck Green.
The festival, which will take place rain or shine, is shaping up to be very large.
“This year I already have over 80 vendors singed up. We’re looking to expand to Division Street because of a heavier than normal influx of vendors,” Harvest Moon Festival Chairman Ray Blum.
Blum said the fair seeks out vendors who sell hand-crafted goods, such as jewelry, knitted crafts and hand-made wooden crafts.
“The crafts are much more creative and unique versus typical products,” Blum said.
In addition to the crafts the festival will also feature a variety of food vendors including sish kabobs, hotdogs, hamburgers, walking tacos, candied apples, cheese steak sandwiches, doughnuts and a tempura veggie food truck.
Boy Scout Troop 102 will continue its annual tradition of running a fried dough booth.
The festival will feature DJ Seth Carley on Friday and saxophonist Marty Q on Saturday.
Blum said a lot of local nonprofit organizations and community service organizations will have booths at the festival. These include Griffin Hospital, which will do health screenings, the Naugatuck Police Explorers, which will offer fingerprinting for children, and the Naugatuck Exchange Club, which will hand out information on child abuse prevention.
“It’s a great opportunity to support local vendors and local nonprofit organizations,” Blum said. “It’s just a great community here that supports the vendors. It’s a nice couple of days for Naugatuck.”
