Equipment stolen from complex

BEACON FALLS — Soon after vandalism was cleaned up at the Pent Road Recreation Complex vandals struck again.

First Selectman Christopher Bielik said the sports complex was vandalized again Aug. 28 — four days after vandals kicked in doors and threw trash over the area.

“They broke down a couple doors they weren’t able to get to last time,” Bielik said.

Bielik said he believes the attack occurred after 9:30 p.m. since that is when the park closes.

“To call it unfortunate is an understatement,” Bielik said.

Bielik said the Robert A. Cole Little League had some equipment stolen during the latest incident.

Each year the league passes out equipment such as helmets, bats, balls and catcher’s equipment to teams. At the end of the season the coaches turn that equipment back in to the league, Bielik said. The coaches had just turned in the equipment before the incidents and some of it was stolen.

The league was still inventorying what was stolen, Bielik said. A full inventory is expected by the end of the week.

“We’re still inventorying. We’re hoping to get a final count on what we need to replace,” Bielik said.

The town had been working with its insurance company to find out what was covered under its policy after the vandalism on Aug. 24. The town has called the insurance company back after the damage done last Thursday to get a quote for both incidents.

Bielik asked anyone with any information to come forward.

“If anybody knows anything, even the slightest bit of evidence someone might have, please contact police department and let us know,” Bielik said.

Bielik said this type of crime doesn’t just affect those who use the complex.

“This kind of thing doesn’t affect just the player. It affects everyone. We are all going to pay for this. Boredom is no excuse for this,” Bielik said.

Anyone with information can contact the police department at (203) 729-3313.
