NAUGATUCK — Applications for special land classification for preservation of farm, forest or open space can be made at the Assessor’s Office through Oct. 31.

Application forms and additional information are available at the office or online at CAAO.com.

If a landowner’s livelihood is derived from a farming operation, he or she is entitled to a tax exemption of up to $100,000 worth of machinery plus all livestock and poultry.

An owner requesting that his or her land be designated as forest land must file and attach a copy of the certified forester’s report with the application for forest land classification.

An owner requesting open space designation must have received such classification from the Planning Commission and be approved by the legislative body of the municipality. He or she must then apply to the assessor within 30 days after.

No applications will be accepted after Oct. 31.
