NAUGATUCK — St. Michael’s Episcopal Church is getting ready for its 55th annual Village Green Fair.

The fair is Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Town Green.

From a caricature artist on Sept. 5 to a car show Sept. 6, the annual fair features an array of activities and events.

An auction, a staple of the fair, will once again be held. This year’s auction is shaping up to the fair’s largest, as the church is the recipient of furniture from two homes.

“We’ve done auctions in the past, but this is an estate auction for two houses,” fair spokeswoman Kimberly Rossi said.

The auction is Sept. 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. and there will be a preview of the auction the day before.

The fair will also feature traditional fair games, vendors and children’s activities. Live music will be available in the church both days. Live performances will also be held on the Green both nights, including a show by Naugatuck native Eran Troy Danner Sept. 5.
Homemade peach shortcake, fresh smoked pulled pork and other traditional fair food will be available to satisfy the taste buds of fairgoers.

While the fair is the biggest fundraiser for the church, a portion of the money is used to help the community, Rossi said.

“We take 10 percent of the proceeds and send it back out into the local community through nonprofits, such as helping the food bank,” Rossi said. “The more money we raise the more we can help other people. St. Michael’s tries to give back as much as possible.”

In addition to the fair, Rossi said, Boy Scout Troop 115 will be hosting a Touch-A-Truck on Sept. 6. Anyone who purchases a ticket for the event can get a free ride on the train at the fair, she said.

Rossi encouraged people to come to the fair saying it’s a fun event for people of all ages.

“It’s an affordable night out getting to experience something local,” Rossi said. “It’s small and not overwhelming. There is free entertainment for kids and free entertainment for adults.”
