Rash of thefts reported

Several thefts have occurred over the past couple of weeks in Beacon Falls and Prospect, according to police reports.

The largest theft happened at about 7:30 a.m. July 18 when a Blue Chrysler Crossfire was stolen from the Irving Gas Station on North Main Street in Beacon Falls.

Police reported the car was left running. According to police, the car was taken by a black male wearing a blue hoodie. The suspect was dropped off at the gas station by a light-colored SUV, police said.

The recent reports of thefts started July 14 when a homeowner on Cedar Lane in Beacon Falls reported that a live chicken was stolen from the home. On the same day, Beacon Falls police responded to 125 Railroad Ave. Ext. in the Murtha Industrial Park for the theft of a railroad frog switch. According to the report, the switch was taken prior to 2 p.m. on July 11.

On July 15 Prospect police received a report that a leaf blower and hedge trimmer were stolen from a parked, unoccupied and unlocked car on Smoke Rise Circle.
Cars have been a popular target for thieves in the area.

The Prospect Resident State Trooper’s office previously reported in the two weeks leading up to July 15 a series of break-ins from unlocked cars occurred in town with Clark Hill Road and surrounding streets having been the hardest hit.

On July 17 break-ins of unlocked cars on Boone Street, Bethany Road and Cook Lane in Beacon Falls were also reported.

The next night, two cars were broken into at a home on Coventry Lane in Beacon Falls. According to police, the cars were rummaged through and an iPod and 1954 $1 bill were stolen. The report didn’t state whether these cars were unlocked.

On July 18 Prospect police responded to a home on Summit Road after a neighbor reported that the front door was open. When police arrived, according to the report, they discovered a burglary had taken place. According to police, the only item taken was a TV.

Prospect police are also investigating a reported theft of $1,200 from a home on Trotters Way. Police reported the victim stated she was having a custom closet built in the home on or about July 8. When the work was done, she noticed the money was missing from a dresser drawer in a bedroom. The theft was reported July 20.

A thief struck again at the Irving Gas Station July 21.

According to police, five full gallons of gas were stolen from the bed of truck at about 8:30 p.m. when the owner of the truck went inside to pay. According to police, a witness told the victim a black male took the gas and left the station in a silver Toyota with another person.

All of the cases remain under investigation.
