To the editor,

Spring wrap-up: I hope all of you are having a fun-filled relaxing summer — some trips, some swims, maybe even a little pick-up game of soccer with some friends. I’m uncertain of the total number of games played, but I know it was whole bunch. A special shout-out to the following teams that won their regular season division league championships: U12 boys comp, U12 girls comp, U12 boys Cobras (premier), U13 girls comp and two teams that won first place in recent tournaments: U14 girls travel rec: first place Conte Tournament, U12 boys Cobras premiere Division I: first place Suffield Tournament.

Summer: One summer soccer camp is complete — great job coach Tony and the Woodland High School players — thanks for a great camp. PYS is pleased to still offer two additional summer soccer camps based in Prospect, all open to residents and non-residents.

PSC Dynamo Summer Advanced Camp: Aug. 4-6, 9 a.m-2 p.m. Boys and girls premier/travel and high school level are invited to join in with advanced premier players for high skill action. Cost is $130 for the three days. Cost includes camp T-shirt and closing lunch celebration. Registration is now open online for ages U14-U17 at www.pscdynamo.com under “Register Now.”

Challenger Camp at Hotchkiss Park: Aug. 11-15, 5:30-6:15 p.m. or 5-8 p.m. British Soccer is once again coming to Prospect this summer. For an entire week, camp is $60 for First Kicks (ages 3-5), $120 for the three-hour program (ages 6-14), and $60 for the goalkeeper clinic (ages 8-14). All programs include a new ball, a T-shirt and a replica jersey (jersey included only if you sign-up at least 45 days in advance of the camp). Register at www.challengersports.com (once on the website select option to “Search for a program near you” and search by “Prospect Youth Soccer”) or go to PYS website and locate the post by Dan Barrows with a direct link to the registration at the bottom.

Fall season, one month and counting.

Fall travel team registration is closed. Registration for recreational soccer and Dinomites trainings for the fall is still open. Go to Prospect Youth Soccer website at www.prospectsoccer.leag1.com for all the details on registration deadlines and late fees. Practices for rec and travel will begin in late August or early September. First weekend of recreation games and Dinomites trainings is scheduled for Sept. 6. Recreation games will again alternate between Pent Road fields in Beacon Falls and Hotchkiss Park in Prospect; the first games of the season will be held at Pent Road. We are still in need of recreation division coaches; if you are willing to be a head coach or assistant coach in our recreational division, please contact Aaron Semrow at aaronsemrow@yahoo.com.

In addition to offering players the opportunity to participate in recreational and travel teams, PYS is also pleased to continue offering players U11 and older an opportunity to compete at the premiere level with our girls premiere program (Dynamo) and our boys premiere program (Cobras). Both programs have proven to be very competitive in state-wide league play. For information or questions, please contact Joe Sousa at jfsousa@snet.net for girls/Dynamo (www.pscdynamo.com) and Jason Christopher (jmtracing@comcast.net) or Dan Barrows (Danielbarrowsacn@aim.com) for boys/Cobras.
