DEEP police charge Naugatuck men

NAUGATUCK — The state Environmental Conservation Police of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection arrested a Naugatuck man Tuesday on charges of carrying a weapon in a motor vehicle and alcohol violations.

Tuesday, after closing hours for the day, an officer on patrol in the Naugatuck State Forest spotted a vehicle that had several firearms and both empty and full alcohol containers inside, according to a news release issued by the DEEP.

The operator of the vehicle, Zachary Dell, 24, of 65 Pleasant Ave., Naugatuck, was under the influence of alcohol, DEEP said in the release. The office seized a semi-automatic rifle, a pistol, a revolver, a quantity of ammunition and a large fixed blade, DEEP said.

Dell was charged with having weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a weapon in a state park or forest and violation of hours or operation of a state park or forest.

He was released on bond and scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on July 15.

A second person in the car, Justin Dell, 31, also of 65 Pleasant Ave., was charged with violation of hours of operation in a state park or forest.
