A dump truck snagged some wires and partially pulled down the telephone pole on the left along Union City Road in Prospect Wednesday afternoon. –ELIO GUGLIOTTI

PROSPECT — A scrap metal truck pulled down a telephone pole when it caught high-tension wires on Union City Road, or Route 68, Wednesday afternoon.

The truck pulled down the wires in between School House Road and Colonial Drive near J&R Auto Repair, 30 Union City Road, at 3:33 p.m., and bent the pole to about a 35-degree angle, firefighters said.

Connecticut Light & Power was called to repair the wires and replace the pole, while the Prospect Fire Department shut down part of the road while that work was happening. Nobody was injured.
