BEACON FALLS — A dump truck had to be pulled from a brook along Beacon Valley Road early Friday morning.

Beacon Hose Company No.1 Fire Chief James Trzaski said the driver of a tri-axle dump truck was heading to his home on Beacon Valley Road from a job out of town at about 3:45 a.m., when it is believed he fell asleep and drove down an embankment into the brook. The accident occurred in the area of the condo complex at Beacon Hill Common, he said.

The driver was treated at the scene and released, Trzaski said. The cab of the truck, however, sustained severe damage, he said. A culvert bulk head along the road was also damaged, he said.

Two heavy-duty tow trucks were called to pull the dump truck out, Trzaski said. The truck was carrying half a load of stone, but none was spilled, he said. Trzaski added no fuel leaked from the truck into the brook. Firefighters set up booms in the brook while the truck was being towed out just in case any fuel leaked, he said.

The road was closed for a couple hours and reopened at 6 a.m. Trzaski said.

According to the police report, the truck is owned by LAC Landscaping in Milford. Police cited the driver for failure to drive right.

  1. Good afternoon,
When I spoke with Chief Trzaski he said the driver was returning from a job site out of town and heading to his home. According to the police report, the driver lives on Beacon Valley Road and the truck is owned by LAC Landscaping in Milford. Police cited the driver for failure to drive right. There were no ordinance violations listed in the report.

  2. Unfortunately, that’s sort of a non-answer. (Expected better from CN !)

As this was clearly not a personal vehicle, I’m curious as to what ordinances the town has with regard to such trucks travelling through our town at quarter to four in the morning. The truck may have been used in support of a non-Beacon Falls project, but if it’s coming from or going to a Beacon Falls business / garage / storage lot, there may be an ordinance or two regarding the hours that such a business may operate. There may also be noise ordinances involved, as that would seem to be quite a noisy truck to be going anywhere on our town streets at quarter to four in the morning.

Perhaps some basic reporting questions could clear this up :
    1. Where was the truck coming from ?
    2. Where was the truck going ?
    3, 4, & 5 TBD based on the answers to 1 and 2.
    6. Are there any such ordinances in the town that protect the residential citizens from such noises at quarter to four in the morning ?

Luckily, the sleeping driver veered to the right. Had it been to the left, in to (potentially) oncoming traffic, this would have been an ENTIRELY different article.

  3. Quick question – Where was there work being donefrom which a truck of this size/scale/magnitude was going home at quarter to four in the morning ? Do our ordinances allow such activity ?
