Letter: Referendum should be a given

To the editor,

There was a statement in last week’s Citizen’s News from Mayor Mezzo that read, “Unfortunately, the budget petition referendum drive this year has a strong dose of politics at its core.”

Give us a break. We should be entitled to a referendum without forcing it. We have one of the highest mill rates, which does not attract businesses, and residents want to move south.

The bureaucrats in Naugatuck should take a lesson from Shelton, where the mill rate is kept low, and it thrives with businesses. Is Naugatuck proud of its extremely high mill rate? I for one am not.

  1. Please share how the town can increase private property values which will result in a mill rate reduction.
