NAUGATUCK — It appears state Rep. Rosa Rebimbas (R-70) will serve another two-year term in the House of Representatives.

Rebimbas, 38, has held the seat since March of 2009, when she won a special election to replace former Rep. Kevin DelGobbo, who left his seat to become a commissioner on what was then called the Department of Public Utility Control. Since then, Rebimbas has not been opposed in any election.

It appears as if she will not be opposed this year, either, as Democrats did not endorse a candidate at their nominating meeting May 22 at Town Hall. No other candidates have come forward.

Rebimbas said she’s honored to serve Naugatuck, her hometown.

“The thing I enjoy most about being a state representative is doing community service; helping residents with their problems and advocating on behalf of issues important to Naugatuck residents and businesses,” she said.

Rebimbas, an attorney by trade whose 70th District covers about three-quarters of Naugatuck, co-sponsored a bill this past session that requires municipalities to coordinate with primary service area responders who provide emergency medical services to their towns when they update their local emergency medical services plan. And it provides for the removal of providers who fail to provide quality patient care.

The law is important to Naugatuck, which is in a battle with its emergency medical services provider, Naugatuck Ambulance.

She has also been recognized for her work in protecting sexual assault victims. A bill she sponsored regarding teenagers and the penalties they receive for “sexting,” or sending sexually explicit text and photo messages, gained national attention about four years ago. It also unanimously passed both the House and the Senate.

Rebimbas serves as House ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, is a member of the Finance Revenue and Bonding Committee and a member of the Government Administration and Elections Committee.
