Plea deal spares man jail time

WATERBURY — A Naugatuck man suspected of possessing child pornography last year was spared prison time Wednesday as part of a plea deal.

Nicholas Pesillo, 29, was sentenced to five years of probation after he pleaded guilty to risk of injury to a minor in Waterbury Superior Court. He was initially charged with first-degree child pornography, which carries a mandatory-minimum of five years in prison upon conviction.

Pesillo’s arrest last year came after police determined a computer in his apartment at on Andrew Avenue in Naugatuck had downloaded numerous images of child porn police said at the time.

Prosecutor Terence Mariani said Wednesday that at least 50 suspected child pornography images were found on Pesillo’s computer, but it would be difficult to prove the case to a jury. But at least one of the videos found on the machine appeared to be child porn, Mariani said.

Pesillo didn’t comment as he stood next to his attorney, Ioannis Kaloidis, during a brief court proceeding where the sentence was handed down.
