NAUGATUCK — Mr. Iveing Gilchrist, Jr., 76, of Naugatuck, passed away on April 30, 2014 in the VITAS Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Bertha (Miele) Gilchrist.
Mr. Gilchrist was born on June 19, 1937 in Newport, N.H. to the late Iveing Gilchrist Sr. and Anna (Ryback) Gilchrist. He served in the army before becoming, a teamster driver and received many awards. He retired in 1999 from Pace motors. His passions included fishing, working on cars and his family.
Besides his wife of 46 years he leaves behind four children, Deborah Smith, John Compo and wife Gillian, Corey Gilchrist and longtime girlfriend Jen, and Gina Robinson and husband Dale. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Thomas Bouchard Jr., Joshua Robinson, Jonathan and Michaela Compo.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial with full military honors will be in Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.
