NAUGATUCK — The crowd in Naugatuck High School’s Davis Auditorium was standing room only last Thursday night for the fifth annual Rip the Runway fashion show.

The show featured a cast of more than 100 students and teachers and a crew of over 30 students. The audience was treated to six runway segments with students and staff modeling attire with such themes as throwback, party in the USA and formal. Between segments the cast delighted the crowd with musical performances.

The annual show, which is supported by local businesses, is put on by the school’s DECA organization. DECA is an international association of high school students interested in pursuing careers in marketing, management, finance or entrepreneurship. The show raises funds each year for DECA’s travel account, which supports students’ involvement in state, regional and national competitions and conferences.

This year’s show also featured a special tribute to world language teacher Rebecca Cruz, who was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer recently and is on medical leave as she undergoes treatment.

A “Miracle Minute” was held during which students raced around the auditorium collecting donations to help Cruz and her family. A total of $1,609.13 was raised during the minute. Plans were also announced for a “Cruz Night” June 13-14 at the high school to benefit the Cruz family.
