To the editor,

By now, PYS is half way through our spring season. We’ve had some great days for playing soccer and some rain has cancelled a few practices and games along the way.  Check out our website at www.prospectsoccer.leag1.com for the latest information on field closings. Also, watch for your coach’s emails if weather is questionable during scheduled practice or game times.

If your children are younger or are new to soccer, inspire them by bringing them to watch the game of an older team. You can find all the games listed by team on our website by selecting “Team” and then choosing the team whose schedule you would like to view.

If you haven’t paid your spring registration fee, please do so as soon as you are able. As the season draws to a close at the end of June, watch for emails from your coaches about the end-of-year celebrations, typically held during your last practice. It’s a great time to acknowledge all the fun your child has had during the season and don’t forget to have your child thank their coach.

Certified referees are still needed. Are you looking to make a little money in your free time? We are still looking for certified referees for our travel and premier level games. To become a certified referee please go to www.ctreferee.com for the upcoming certification classes in July 2014. Contact Rob Phalen, PYS referee coordinator, through PYS’s website under “Contact Info—Board” to ask any questions or to let him know your availability.

Summertime, summertime … it’s always a fun time to sign up your children for camps. PYS is pleased to offer three different opportunities for summer soccer camps all based in Prospect, all open to residents and non-residents.

Yes, fall talk already.

Fall travel team registration will open on or before June 1 and close June 30.  Recreational Soccer and Dinomites registration dates TBD. Go to PYS website for details.

In addition to offering players the opportunity to participate in recreational and travel teams, PYS is also pleased to continue offering players U11 and older an opportunity to compete at the premier level with our girls premier program (Dynamo) and our boys premier program (Cobras). Both programs have proven to be very competitive in both state-wide league play and regional tournaments. Dynamo’s U16 girls opened their spring season as champions of the 2014 New Jersey Girls College Bound Showcase Tournament and the Cobras U12 boys started their spring season by winning their division at the NEFC pre-season soccer tournament in Massachusetts. PSC Dynamo premier soccer club will be conducting tryouts June 24-26 at 5 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field in Prospect for U11-U17 girls (those born between Aug. 1, 1997 and July 31, 2004.)  Register online for tryouts at www.pscdynamo.com. You can also register at the field during tryout days.  The Cobras will be conducting tryouts June 23-26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field in Prospect for U11-U14 boys (those born between Aug. 1, 2000 and July 31, 2004.)  June 23 and 25 will be for U11/U12 boys and June 24 and June 26 will be for U13/U14 boys.
