NAUGATUCK — Borough firefighters had a busy Monday that included interrupting the Memorial Day Parade to get to a call of a gas leak.

By early evening, firefighters had responded to seven calls including a call of a parade marcher who collapsed from heat and was helped by Naugatuck firefighters also marching in the parade.

Capt. Vincent Healy said eight firefighters and Engine 3 were part of the parade procession when parade participants ran back to where firefighters were marching at 9:45 a.m. to ask for help. Firefighters stayed with the person on Calvin Street until an ambulance arrived.

About half an hour later, firefighters interrupted the parade at Division and Meadow streets to get to a call of a gas leak at an industrial building at 417 N. Main Street.

Just as the parade had finished, at 11 a.m., firefighters helped a person who had a seizure at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Old Firehouse Road.

Three people sustained minor injuries following a two-car accident on New Haven Road at 1:03 p.m. near the intersection with Schmitz Avenue during which the front left wheel of one car came off, and the car coming to rest several hundred feet away.
