NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck High School DECA program is hosting a Cruz Night in June to benefit world languages teacher Rebecca Cruz.

Cruz, a veteran teacher who is in her late 40s, has been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is undergoing treatment. She has taken a leave of absence due to her illness.

Cruz Night will be held overnight beginning at 7 p.m. June 13 and ending at 8 a.m. June 14 on the track and field facility at the high school. The event will feature sport activities for all who register, live bands, food and drink and a special midnight glow stick segment.

A 12-hour walk-a-thon will be held in support of Cruz. Participants are seeking sponsors for team walks around the track throughout the night and early morning.

The public is welcome to join the event. Registration is $25 and can be done in advance or the night of the event. Those who register by May 21 are guaranteed a Cruz Night T-shirt.

Donations may also be made payable to NHS CRUZ NIGHT and mailed to Naugatuck High School, 543 Rubber Ave., Naugatuck, CT Attn.: DECA CRUZ NIGHT.

Interested participants and businesses may contact event organizer and DECA Advisor Tim Reilly at (203) 232-0725 for more information.
