Naugatuck Parent School Council

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Parent School Council is offering $500 scholarships to two Naugatuck High School seniors planning on attending a two- or four-year post-secondary institution. 

Applications are available in the NHS guidance office. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, have volunteered for civic, community, religious or other non-profit organizations, including activities at school, and submit an essay.

Applicants will be interviewed by the committee. The deadline for submissions is May 2.  For more information, call Chris Almeida at (203) 632-5819.

Beacon Falls Rotary Club

BEACON FALLS — The Rotary Club of Beacon Falls will award $500 scholarships to two graduating Woodland Regional High School seniors.

To be eligible the seniors must be planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university. Applicants must submit their high school transcripts, a list of community service hours and a 250 to 500 word essay answering the question, What does “peace through service” mean to you?, with their application. Applications should be returned to the Woodland guidance office.

Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan is accepting applications for the two $1,000 scholarships.

The Donald G. Brubaker Memorial Scholarship is open to high school seniors, who plan to continue their education and bank customers or their children regardless of residency.

The Ronald D. Lengyel Scholarship is available only to Naugatuck High School seniors who plan to further their education.

Applications are available at each branch of the bank, online at www.nvsl.com or from area guidance counselors. Completed applications must be returned to Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan by May 9.

Connecticut Funeral Directors Association

The Connecticut Funeral Directors Association is accepting applications for its college “Family Support Services Scholarship” program through April 11.

A total of eight $500 college scholarships will be presented — one to a student in each of the state’s eight counties.

To be eligible candidates must: be a graduating high school senior; be a legal resident of the state; be pursuing a career that provides emotional, medical or physical support for families; have maintained at least a B grade point average in the 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

All candidates must submit the application form and a current high school transcript and essay responding to the question: Why did you decide to pursue a profession that supports families?

Winfred B. Langhorst Memorial Scholarship

NAUGATUCK — St. Michael’s Episcopal Church of Naugatuck is offering the Winfred B. Langhorst Memorial Scholarship. 

The scholarship is offered to a resident of Naugatuck, or a registered member of the church. The student must be a graduating senior from an accredited area high school or an accredited parochial or preparatory school, who is planning to attend college or another post-secondary institution of higher learning. 

Interested students should contact their guidance department for an application, or contact St. Michael’s at (203) 729-8249. The deadline to submit applications is April 30.
