NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Fire Department responded to three calls Sunday morning for small camp fires that got out of control.

The most serious one started at 8:35 a.m. when the wind picked up and kicked up embers, starting some of the area brush on fire, which lit a nearby fence.

The other brush fires occurred on Ward and Rubber avenues. Firefighters quickly extinguished all three fires and nobody was injured.

Fire Capt. Jim Trzaski said this is the prime time of year for brush fires.

“While people are cleaning up yards, it may seem a lot easier to try to burn materials, but it’s so dry and windy that it doesn’t take much for the fire to spread,” he said, adding that open burning is not allowed in Naugatuck.
