NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Police Department is warning residents to not leave belongings in plain site in their cars after a rash of car break-ins this past weekend.

The department responded to six break-ins over the weekend and most of them were “smash and grabs,” meaning the windows were smashed and items were stolen from inside the cars. A variety of items, including electronics and loose change, was stolen, police said.

Four of the incidents happened at a parking lot on High Street early Sunday morning, and the other two happened on Melbourne Street and Water Street.

Lt. Bryan Cammarata, police spokesman, advised people to not leave valuable belongings in plain sight; they can be brought into a house or put in a trunk or glove box. And people should always lock their car doors, he said.
