To the editor,

The snow is melting at Hotchkiss, Caplan and St. Anthony’s fields and the soccer goals are reappearing from being snow-bound. As you read this article, PYS spring travel season is only days away from beginning on April 5; PYS rec season is not too far behind. Recreational soccer (U6-U13) practices are currently scheduled to begin the week of April 21 and games will begin on Saturday, May 3. Dinomites Soccer (U4 – U5) trainings will also begin May 3.

Registration for travel soccer is closed, but registration for recreational soccer teams and our Dinomites I & II soccer programs remains open until April 6. You may register for all teams at www.prospectsoccer.leag1.com. When registering, you must sign your children up at the level for which they are eligible to play according to their birth date. If an exception is required, you may submit a request for consideration to the PYS Board, either in writing or in person at a board meeting.

U6 and U8 recreation coaches needed.  Prospect Youth Soccer is 100 percent volunteer run. The programs can’t exist without volunteers to organize and lead practices, games and team activities. We are in need of volunteers to work with our kids as either head coaches or managers for our U6 coed, U8 boys and U8 girls divisions. No soccer experience is necessary except the enthusiasm and patience to work with children. Coaches training and curriculum will be offered as well as other incentives.

Certified referees needed. Are you looking to make a little money in your free time? We are looking for certified referees for our travel and premier level games. To become a certified referee please go to www.ctreferee.com for the upcoming certification classes.

Premiere Soccer in Prospect: In addition to offering players the opportunity to participate in recreational and travel teams, PYS is also pleased to continue offering players U11 and older an opportunity to compete at the premiere level with our girl’s premiere program (Dynamo) and our boy’s premiere program (Cobras). Both programs have proven to be very competitive in state-wide league play. For information, questions or to schedule a tryout, please contact Joe Sousa at jfsousa@snet.net for girls/Dynamo (www.pscdynamo.com) and Jason Christopher (jmtracing@comcast.net) or Dan Barrows (Danielbarrowsacn@aim.com) for boys/Cobras.

Lastly, even as we are finalizing teams and dates for the spring season, the board is busy planning our summer soccer camps.  No details yet, but keep your eyes open. Like us on Facebook and keep up-to-date with PYS happenings. If you have an interest in helping to advance the goals of PYS, join us for our monthly board meetings the first Monday of each month; our next meeting is April 7 at 7 p.m. at the firehouse in Prospect. Come join us.
