To the editor,

The countdown has begun. We are only about five to six weeks away from the opening weekend of spring travel soccer for the South Central District, to which Prospect Youth Soccer belongs. With the 5- to 6-foot piles of snow around town, we only need to melt 1 foot per week to see grass before the season opens. Hmmm … we’ll have to see about that one.

Registration for travel soccer is closed, but registration for recreational soccer teams and our Dinomites I and II soccer programs has been extended and remains open until April 6. You may register for all teams at www.prospectsoccer.leag1.com. When registering, you must sign your children up at the level for which they are eligible to play according to their birth date. If an exception is required, you may submit a request for consideration to the PYS Board, either in writing or in person at a board meeting. Recreational levels of play this year include: Dinomites I (U4 Mini-kicks), Dinomites II (U5) and U6-U11. Our recreational teams will play in town only, unlike our travel teams which compete against other towns in the south central Connecticut region. Practices are scheduled to begin the week of April 21 and we are planning an eight-week season from May 3 through June 21.

Premiere Soccer in Prospect: In addition to offering players the opportunity to participate in recreational and travel teams, PYS is also pleased to continue offering players U11 and older an opportunity to compete at the premiere level with our girls’ premiere program (Dynamo) and our boys’ premiere program (Cobras). Both programs have proven to be very competitive in state-wide league play. For information, questions or to schedule a tryout for the girls’ Dynamo teams, please contact Joe Sousa at jfsousa@snet.net or visit them on the web at www.pscdynamo.com. The boys’ Cobras will be having formal tryouts for U11, U12 and U13 boys’ players on March 4 and March 11 at 6 p.m. at United Athletic Center (UAC)/Waterbury Athletic Center (WAC) in Waterbury. You can find directions at www.playatthewac.com. If you are interested in trying out for the Cobras, you can register for tryouts at www.prospectsoccer.leag1.com. Contact Jason Christopher (jmtracing@comcast.net) or Dan Barrows (danielbarrowsacn@aim.com) for questions about the boys’ Cobras teams.

Like us on Facebook and keep up to date with PYS happenings. See the PYS website for all details, registration levels and eligibility requirements. The PYS Board meets the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the firehouse in Prospect. Anyone who has an interest in helping advance the goals of PYS is welcome to attend.
