NAUGATUCK — State representatives Rosa Rebimbas (R-70) and David Labriola (R-131) raised more than $10,000 in one hour Wednesday for the Salvation Army.

The lawmakers stood outside the Naugatuck Walmart as bell ringers for the Salvation Army. They raised $5,332.61 through donations and Walmart will match their collection dollar-for-dollar, bringing the total to more than $10,600, according to a press release. All of the money will go directly to the Salvation Army.

“I want to thank everyone who stopped by and donated to the Salvation Army,” said Rebimbas in the release. “I am happy we were once again able to help local families in need during the holidays with everyone’s generous donations and matching program by Walmart. Thank you again to Walmart for their generosity.”

Labriola added in the release. “It was a very successful day. Our community is so generous, and the support these shoppers poured out for families in need is heartwarming.”

The legislators have been ringing the bell for the Salvation Army outside of Walmart for several years. Although the matching program by Walmart has ended in Naugatuck, anyone who wants to donate to the Salvation Army can call (203) 754-7056 or email John.Lock@use.salvationarmy.org.
