Work underway on gas line
PROSPECT — Work started last week to install a gas main on Route 69 that will service the new elementary school to be built on New Haven Road.
Mayor Robert Chatfield said construction of the gas main by Yankee Gas Co. began Sept. 30. It will take 21 days to install, he said.
John J. Brennan Construction Co., of Shelton, has installed 2,200 feet of 12-inch water main from the intersection of the Algonquin School driveway to the site of the new school at 75 New Haven Road. It was completed in late August, Chatfield said.
Yankee Gas is installing the gas main in the same right-of-way to service the school, he said.
One lane of traffic will be kept open during construction. Two police officers will be on site, and work will run from about 7:30 a.m. to about 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
