Second suspect charged in scam
NAUGATUCK — Police have arrested a second man in connection with a June home improvement scam that cost a 73-year-old Grove Street woman hundreds of dollars and endangered her life.
Sean Algaze, 26, of 6 Floral Ave. in Huntington, N.Y., went to the woman’s house in June with Patrick Webb, who operates a Middle Island-based business called East Coast Home Improvements, according to police. Algaze and Webb convinced the woman to install unnecessary piping in her chimney, according to police. The work was done incorrectly, causing venting issues which could have led to carbon monoxide poisoning, according to police.
Borough detectives picked Algaze up Tuesday from a jail in Nassau County, N.Y., where he was being held on a warrant for performing trade work without a license, conspiracy at larceny in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and violation of state building code. He was held on a $25,000 bond to appear Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court.
