Police-badgeNAUGATUCK — A bomb scare at Big Y proved to be a false alarm Monday night.

At about 7 p.m. police received a 911 call from an unknown person who said there was a bomb in the Big Y on Bridge Street, Naugatuck police spokesman Lt. Bryan Cammarata said in a press release.  The store and other businesses in the plaza were evacuated and the surrounding roads were closed off.

Naugatuck police along with the Connecticut State Police bomb squad searched the store and the plaza. Cammarata said no explosive devices were found. The plaza and the surrounding roads were reopened shortly after 9 p.m.

Naugatuck police will continue to investigate to the source of the threat, Cammarata said.
