BEACON FALLS — Woodland Regional High School has a new principal for the first time.

The Region 16 Board of Education, which oversees schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect, announced Wednesday afternoon that Kurt Ogren has been appointed the school’s principal.

Ogren, a Seymour resident, will replace former Principal Arnold Frank. Frank retired in June but has been serving as interim principal. He was the school’s first and only principal since it opened in 2001.

According to a press release issued by the district, Ogren has served as the provost at West Haven High School for the past 8 years. In 2008, he was a nominee for the Connecticut Association of Schools/National Association of Secondary Schools High School Assistant Principal of the Year award.

Ogren was chosen out of a pool of 23 candidates. The pool of candidates was whittled down to three finalists by a selection team and the full board then interviewed the finalists.

Ogren is expected to start at Woodland by early September, the release stated. A reception will be scheduled to welcome him.

“The Board of Education and I are confident that Kurt Ogren will be an excellent addition to the administrative leadership team in Region 16 and will be a strong and effective educational leader at Woodland Regional High School,” Superintendent of Schools Tim James said in the release.
