The Council of Governments of the Central Naugatuck Valley, in collaboration with the state Department of transportation, is seeking public comments on the department’s air quality conformity analysis.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved new 2008 8-Hour Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standards and redesignated new nonattainment areas in 2012, according to a press release issued by the council.
As a result, the release stated, each area designated as nonattainment for this new standard must show transportation conformity. The DOT anticipates using the existing air quality conformity analysis from November 2011 to support their conformity determination. The regional ozone emissions analysis from November 2011 shows conformity to the 2009 motor vehicle emission budgets for the Central Naugatuck Valley Regional Long Range Transportation Plans and the 2012-2015 transportation improvement program, the release stated.
The planning assumptions used in the 2011 conformity determination can be found in Appendix A of the report. These documents are available on the COGCNV website at www.cogcnv.org/AQ_comments.html and in hard copy at the COGCNV office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
